Why I Love My Job…

As I was driving down Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista one mid afternoon my phone rang and I was excited to see that it was one of my childhood friends, Sarah, calling me. Having not spoken to her in a few years, I answered the phone with great excitement. She said “Jewell, I heard you were in real estate.” “Yes” I replied. “I want to buy a house” she mentioned. I was excited to hear Sarah’s voice but yet there was something that bothered me. I remembered her to be full of life and laughter, but not this time around. There was a sense of sadness and confusion in her voice. It made me concerned. I told her that I would pass by her place to ask her a couple of questions of what she was looking for. Really, I wanted to ask her how her life was doing. I’m glad I did.
When I arrived at Sarah’s place I was so excited to see her and gave her a really big hug. I knew that she was really excited to see me, but yet I felt that she was fighting for her excitement to be felt. She was so overwhelmed with her negative emotions that happiness could not overcome it. I sat her down and simply asked her “How are you doing?” She looked at me with such emptiness, her spirit so dead. She was in a very unhappy relationship with a man that treated her badly, unfortunately who she was living with, and she wanted to get out…but didn’t know how.
Sarah was making good money as a nurse and her co-workers told her that she could afford to purchase a home on her own. She was excited to know that but when she got home to tell her boyfriend, his never-ending insults discouraged her spirit once again. She was tired of being unhappy and of his constant degrading words. She wanted to prove to him that she can do it.
I wanted her to learn that she can prove it to herself.
After hearing her tell me “how she was doing,” I was inspired. I was inspired to help my childhood friend who was once very jolly, in her mission to find her confidence that was lost.
We started the buying home process. We finally found one that she fell in love with and went into escrow. One weekday morning, Sarah made a surprise visit to my office. We sat down and she could not stop smiling. Sarah was glowing! Her inner spirit which felt like went into a deep sleep, was now being awakened. She felt good. She was proving to her boyfriend and more importantly to herself, that she CAN do it. She felt empowered and unstoppable.
Sarah closed escrow and finally became a homeowner! She later on let go of her boyfriend and moved forward with her life. Not too long after, she met a genuine and kind man, Justin, who saw the very beauty and kindness that I see in her. Her confidence kept building up and now felt appreciated. Justin and Sarah fell in love and got married. As I sat there at their beautiful wedding reception watching them dance to the sound of endless love music as husband and wife, I said to myself…this is the reason why I love my job…..
